Nicola Genovese (born 1971) lives and works in Zurich.
In his installation “The Lion Sleeps Tonite”, 2015, the artist refers to Zurich. The lion which is depicted in the coat of arms of the city of Zurich is the starting point of his work. As a symbol it represents power, identity and strength. The sculpture exhibited in the 24hrs project is reduced to the graphic elements of the lion. Nicola Genovese deals with issues of copyright and authorship, also demonstrated by a selection of various covers of “The Lion sleeps Tonight” and accompanied by his own live version with a ukulele.
